We're no longer "one step closer"...we're HERE

Preparing for this adventure was way more difficult than we imagined. From finding the catamaran we wanted, to inspecting it, to purchasing it and putting it up for hurricane season. Then determining what we should/could bring to the British Virgin Islands and getting it all here.

For everything little thing that we finished, we'd say "One step closer...." And we did that for 5 months.

We departed Denver on October 28th with four bags totaling almost 280 lbs. Only one didn't make it to St. Thomas that evening, but showed up promptly on the next morning's flight. Billy, our taxi driver, was a big help as he toured us around from St. Thomas's version of Costco, to the local grocery for when we go back there to provision.

We ferried over to Tortola that afternoon, and after and hour an a half of COVID testing and customs, we taxied to our new home. We kept getting "one step closer."

It wasn't until the two of us hoisted each of the heavy bags onto our back deck that we said, 'we're no longer one step closer....we're HERE!"

These first few days have been fun and only a little overwhelming as we:

  • Took all of that 240 lbs of stuff and found places for it on board.

  • Shopped for food, but can't cook yet, as our propane is not working, so we are enjoying snapper at the marina restaurant.

  • Made a trip to the local chandlery (think Ace Hardware) was an eye opener as everything here is so expensive. A squeegee was $45, so that can wait.

  • Installed a new hatch that was broken.

  • Went through both the port and starboard engine compartments to make sure we can leave the marina tomorrow.

We start our practical training tomorrow with Captain Chris, who will teach us for four days. Wish us luck!

Just so you know, it started snowing in Denver this morning. No more flip-flops for us!
